Self-evident Truths

We hold these truths to be Self-Evident… that all men are created equal…but why don’t we live that way?  The self we’ve been using is the smaller self.  It’s the person we think we are, with all the vast intelligence and self-centered, ego fed crap that we say we “believe”.  The illusive character behind the scenes that causes all our problems.  The mind powered computer that disconnects us from the truth of who we are, with all of it’s logic, schemes, and plans.  And yet, with all that.. we all, still know… at least on some level…no one should go hungry… we shouldn’t hurt each other.  Basic truths, we all know, but not from our mind, the source of the smaller self… but from our Soul… the higher Self.

It doesn’t take a genius to see we are all disconnected from our souls.  We’ve gone so far over board in developing our intellect, we’ve totally forgotten, who we really are.   Self-Evident truths never change… but we can refuse to re-cognize them… which we have all done… otherwise we’d be living them.  To go up against the norm is tough… it’s easier, we think, at least for the time being, to just go along with the game… make sure I get my share (although it’s always a little short of what I think I want)… and not think about how unbalanced it is.  But it’s getting late for all of us.   We are killing our chances of surviving as a species.  Oh, I know, it sounds so dramatic!  But the truth is so simple… we just won’t apply it!

It’s gonna take all of us, but it starts with just a few… how do we get connected?  We have been living apart for so many generations…. how do we go from living apart to being a part?  Equal parts of the One whole.

My friend Noel and I were inspired to create a workshop series on just how to re-member(become a member once again) of who we really are.  We call it: taking it A.P.A.R.T. so it can come together.  Living from Self-Evident truths is a lot easier than “thinking about it”.  When we be who we are, what we do is in harmony… when we think we’re what we’re not, we only do harm.

We have a unique and fun way of re-presenting truths in which participants actual experience them…  it’s not just information…  it’s application.  And that makes all the difference!

If you’d like to try a workshop send us your email and we’ll put you on our mailing list for workshops in your area.  And if you’re in the southern California area and would like to do a workshop for your organization, event, or group, please, email me your information and I’d be happy to talk to you about what we do.  paul@possidude.com

It’s Time to … get yourself connected!

Recreation (take five)

Here’s what five minutes of meditation brought me this morning.

My thought life is unmanageable.  There is no way I can be satisfied by what my mind comes up with by itself.  What does that mean?  It means I am more than my mind.  Who I am is a three-part being, soul, mind, and body.  Because I never developed my soul, I try to figure out my life with my mind alone… bypass my soul…  and take action with my body.  I’m constantly chasing my tail.  I have to let go of my thoughts and allow who(?) I am, to be there.  The spiritual man.

Nothing I know from the neck up will save me.  What am I being saved from?  My mis-taken beliefs of who, “I think”, I am!

I get quiet…  use my words… to ask that presence… that is who… I am… to stop my thoughts… move into my heart…  feel that presence beating my heart…  breathing my breath.  When I feel that presence…  I am open to receive…   ideas…  flowing from my source… which inspires (inwardly spirits) my mind…  to create that which I am here to create.  My mind… is myend… of the one mind (of God).  When I pause…  and re-member who, I am…  creation expresses itself through me…  to create…  in harmony with other myends…  the world…  as creation intends it to be.

Now that I am in my heart…  inspirit-a-tion is flowing in…  as…  and through me.  I can take action…  using my body and mind, in the physical world…  to put these words on paper… to re-mind you…  to re-member…  who you are.  However, I’m still new at this.  I have an undisciplined mind… it runs on its own… most of the time… I disconnect from inspiration… the source of my creation… all day long…  and try to live on myend power alone.  When that happens…  I experience pain… discomfort… negativity… I have temporarily forgotten who I am.  I need you…whoever you are…  to re-mind me… of who… I am.  We are not a-lone, we are all-one!  We need… each… other.   Let’s co-operate and re-create together…  the world…  as it was always intended to be.

Join us for a little recreation… as we utilize percussion instruments in a drum circle setting to re-cognize, how to get, and stay, connected… both  individually… and collectively… to the one whole…

Send your email address to paul@possidude.com to get on our mailing list.  We’ll let you know where, in the southern California area, you can “get yourself connected”.

Till then just… take five……

Re-a-son

How does our brain work?  According to an expert, and from her experience of a stoke (see video:  brain scientist insight ), our left brain processes, files, figures things out, sorts, and organizes all the information we accumulate in our life.  Our right brain is what accepts everything as it is.  All of it.  In all its splendor.  One giant cosmic whole.  A swirling mass of energy and light moving in perfect harmony.  We need both to live in the physical world.  You might look at the brain in this way; the right brain is all the information there is, and the left brain makes it useful.  We reason things out with the left brain based on the information we have, to create our lives and the things we do… the human part.  The right brain sees everything in its fullness, complete in its relation to everything else as part of the whole… the being part.

In order to experience the being part we must have the human part.  The being part inspires the human part with ideas, insights, of who we really are.  Then the human part organizes the data and brings the idea into manifestation.  When the being part is dominant, we are in la la land, peace and love and all that.  When we are in the human part, it’s all about evidence, hard facts, what we call reality.  We call right brain thinking, dreaming, and left brain thinking, reasoning.  What we are aiming for is balance.  The question is “how do we do that?”.

Why not try re-zoning instead of reason-ing.  Re-zoning some space in our left brain.  Spend some time quieting down, meditating, connecting to nature, listening to the silence. These things allow space in the left brain to receive inspiration, ideas, and concepts, from our right brain.  The things that are not part of our experience.  They have yet to be created.  The regular practice of things like this will begin to re-zone the way we think.  All great teachers throughout the ages have taught this.  Now science is saying the same thing.

All this presented me with another interesting idea.  I was writing the word reason out and it came out re-a-son.  Re means to do again…  a means singular… and son is an offspring of two things coming together.  So a singular idea might come from, all that is, in the right brain, enters into the left brain that processes that idea, which then creates a son, the offspring of the right and left brain coming together to create something man-I-festered in the physical world.  Which would make all of us, individual vehicles for the manifestation of God, all that is, expressing through us, and as us.  Or not….  you decide.    (oh, and feel free to comment on the post)

How to Change the World

We are a nation, a world for that matter, of consumers and to that extent we are all self-absorbed.  Our own desires come first.  We have lost our connection to our group, the group called human beings.

I’m not saying we can’t have stuff, but how much is enough?  Instead of looking at those that have more and asking how can I get that?  We might try looking at those that have less and ask, how can I best help balance it out a bit, in some small way?  And I don’t mean donating cash to try to buy our way out of looking at the problems the world faces.  I’m talking, actually going and looking at one of those problems face to face and asking, what would the right thing to do be?  How might I make a tiny difference?

I believe we don’t look or ask those questions because we can’t see an answer at first glance, so we don’t think there is one.  Then we get overwhelmed and refuse to look because it hurts.  We go back to our separated lives and try to buy more stuff to fill the hole where the hurt is; the new car, home, TV, cell phone, or whatever.  It seems to work for a while, but if you’re honest with yourself, you know it doesn’t last.  We always need a better one or the new one that just came out.

Imagine this:

Whenever we want to make a purchase for x amount, we are required to go look at one of society’s problems first.  Really look at the problem and ask ourselves what should we do about this?  From all the ideas that people come up with, only those that would benefit everyone get entered into a database.  The database stores them by topic and everyone that looks at that topic has access to all of the existing ideas.  Each person then would either add to an existing idea or present a new one.  In this way we would find solutions together based on what benefits everyone in the group…  all of us.

If you still decide to buy the new whatever it is, you would have at least taken a serious look at how you might help, which starts the change from self-centered to group centered behavior.  Even that little bit helps connect us to each other.  No one is going to come up with an answer…  it must come from all of us!

It’s a beginning….

Naked Prayer

I got up one morning and forgot to do my normal prayer and meditation.   While sitting on the toilet, naked, the thought came ‘why not meditate here?’.   I was shocked, once again, to see how much resistance I had to even consider such an idea.  I mean, I know it doesn’t matter where I pray, but the idea of being naked, sitting on the throne, where all that “dirty stuff goes on” and mixing that with prayer…  well it felt blasphemous!

It’s always a strange feeling when I question my old belief system.  I talk about letting go and letting God all the time…  having no secrets… it’s just me and God… and still somehow, my training in right and wrong thinking insists that this is wrong.  It’s the most private and natural setting for prayer, let’s face it. It is the one place we all let go and sit naked before our creator (our creator being everywhere).  So what’s the big deal?  Then it came to me, it isn’t where I pray but my earnest desire to commune with my creator that mattered.

I don’t know who told me there was a place for prayer and a place for poop and never the twain shall meet, but they were wrong… there is no place that God is not!  If I pray, that makes me a pray er and my very life becomes a living prayer… everywhere I go!

How are you Doing?

A familiar question no doubt, but is it the right question?  When did what I’m doing become more important than what I’m being?  After all, I am a human being, not a human doing.  I often don’t remember to ask myself ‘how am I being?’.  Do you ever ask yourself that question?   We get all caught up in what we’re doing, or not doing, and we forget all about being.  We joke about stopping and smelling the coffee, but how often do we actually do it?

Whenever I take the time to just be…  I become aware.  I smell, touch, taste, hear, and see everything with a new vision.  I experience my be-ing.  When I let myself be who I am in any given moment, I be-come a part of life experiencing itself as me.  In other words…  I am who I was created to be… no doing is required.

When nothing is required I am free to experience my being in its fullness.  In those moments I often experience what has been written: “ I am come that you may experience life more abundantly”.  That, I am presence is who, underneath all our doing, we truly are.  This presence is not to be con-fused with our thin-king of who we are.  We are not the egoic image of a separated self, detached from its source, begging mercy from a judgmental creator that stands above, beyond, and separate from his creation.   For behold, “I am in all things”.

When I pause…  stop doing… stop thinking… simple ask “who am I”… and become still… “be still and know I am God”.  Not all of God, but part of… not apart from.  I am re-minded…  “it is your father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. “  In that secret place… my soul… which is the king(s)dom(icle).    All I need do is just be(and then)hold:  “for be-hold the kingdom of heaven is within”.

My definition of being is simply the action of accepting what is. Only when my doing is in alignment with my being do I truly re-present who… “ I am”.

The “Fund-a-Mental Ideas of God (part 2)

The perfect idea (God)…  expressing itself through me (man)…  is the I am(i) presence…  that is my be-ing (festering)…  made flesh.  When I take action, I re-present that perfect idea of God and re-create that idea new in each moment.  God (being those ideas that express through me), empowers me to express myself in however I choose.  Only when I fail to recognize the source of all ideas do I shut of the flow of inspiration that continuously offers itself as me and create a false self based on selfish and self  centered thoughts about the way “I think” it should be.  I still have the ability to create in the image and likeness of my creator, to man-i-fest what I want, but without a re-membering of who I am in my fullness, no peace will be found, just an insatiable desire for more.

God is perfection, nothing needs to be accomplished, it already is, it just needs to be re-cognized by each individual piece of its creation, which then re-presents the peace that passeth all understanding.  As God so revealed to Neale Walsh: to re-member is to become a member once again of the body of God.

Money?

Money is the value we give things based on a world that believes it can own what it did not create.  It starts with the ego’s idea of separation, my house, my car, my job, my partner, etc.  The word “my” separates us.  We see ourselves as different and go about life identifying the differences and forget who we are, (equal parts of the whole).  Interesting that we use the word “money” to try and combine the separated self ‘my’ and the connected Self ‘one’ to create an illusionary value.  No matter how we try we cannot separate ourselves from who we are.  There is only One and that One simply is ….

we either have (my) or we are (one)

It’s time to re-member who we are…  re-mind each other…  and act accordingly!

The “Fund a MentaI Ideas” of God (part1)

“Deep down in every man woman and child is the fundamental idea of God.” I never thought of God as an idea, I always thought of God as a being, a physical presence, an entity separate from me. When I began to look at that statement and consider it for what it actually says a “fundamental idea”. It says God is the “fund” of “mental ideas”, or that from which all ideas come. Ideas then are God, and thoughts are our representation of these ideas. Our con-fusion comes when we “think” we created the idea and believe we are separate from our creator.

It can be looked at as lightning. God is the lightning and we stand-under it but we cannot under-stand God because that is not our minds function. The minds function is to express the perfect idea of God experiencing itself as us and surrender the thoughts which seemingly stand in the way of its perfect expression.

These ideas, presenting themselves as us, are continuously re-presenting themselves new in each moment. Our thoughts can only appear to separate us from that which we are a part. Knowing (not a mind function and often confused with faith) allows us to not just accept each moment as perfect but to choose the next greatest vision of what we image in as possible in each new moment called now.

Just Give Up! (and begin again, new)

Aren’t you tired of working so hard…  trying to do better… trying to change… trying to get ahead… ahead of what?  Who?  Where are you going?  Do you think you’ll be happy when and if you get there?  It’s exhausting, isn’t it?  Is life supposed to be this hard?   Why don’t you just give up?

I know, that’s absurd, we can’t just give up…  can we?  But what if the problem is…   we just started from the wrong place?  What if…   why it isn’t working is because we started out wrong?  If that’s the case…   no matter what we do we can’t win, can we?  There’s no peace to be found, anywhere.  It’s a hard pill to swallow, I know, but think about it for a second…   if your thinking is off from the get go…  any ‘idea’ you come up with will be off too.  It’s no wondering the systems we’ve created, political, healthcare, penal, you name it, don’t work.  We started out wrong.  Any attempt to repair a system that doesn’t start from truth will fail.  So why don’t we just give up and start over?  Of course the mind will balk at such a proposal.  Our ‘thinking’ will dismiss this whole concept as ridiculous.  (if you continue reading this, consider yourself fortunate…  most won’t…  the authority of self doesn’t like to be questioned)

We’re raised to believe, you never, give up!  It’s our culture, if we give up we lose, we’re told.  Apparently at times, that seems true.  Here’s the question:  Is there a higher reality than apparent reality?  Is there a higher truth than what is apparent to us?  Our minds tell us no…   if I can’t see it, it’s not true.  But, aren’t we more than our minds?  Maybe it’s time we questioned that authority?

What if…   everything we will ever need we already have?  Is that possible?  Don’t think!  Just consider… is it possible that maybe we don’t know something, right from the outset, and if we knew that something consciously, everything would change?  Consider what that might mean in terms of the way we look at our life.  If you had access…  within yourself…  to answers, to any question you could possibly ask, related to your experience of life…  there would be no cause for worry, fear, anxiety, anger, jealousy, or greed…  no need to condemn or defend.

You do have that access, we all do, it is our birthright.  There are many methods available to help us live that experience.  Some involve many years of study just to make a beginning.   I’d like to offer a very simple one here, but don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself, see if it isn’t true in your experience.

Because we tried to build our life having the feeling that something was missing and we didn’t know what it was, and no one told us about it…  at least not in a form we could use.  Our foundation was insecure and that’s how we grew…  insecure.  (something’s missing and we just need a little more)

We can learn, however, to take it A.P.A.R.T. so it can come together.  I didn’t say make it happen, I said it can come together.  It can and will do it on its own.  All true paths are about removing the blocks we have created to the awareness of the presence of who we really are.

The first part in this process is:   Awareness, that something is missing.  The main indicator of awareness is pain, sometimes pleasure but primarily pain.  We don’t like a situation, person, or thing that is being presented to us… this can take unlimited forms.

Awareness does not come from the mind, it comes from something else.  That something goes by many names, the watcher, the witness, or higher self.  We all experience awareness, we just don’t often recognize it as a gift, and we fail to utilize it, so we become unconscious of it.  It’s still there we just aren’t conscious of it.  (It may be the death of a loved one… or you can’t pay the rent… it could be anything that produces the pain.)  The pain re-presents an opportunity to re-member once again, who and what, we really are.  The pay-in is the still small voice with-in, saying…   I am all of this event but this event is not all I am.  Behold, that is, just be…  feel what you need to feel…  let it go…  don’t freak out…  you’ll get through this even though you don’t think so…  and hold onto the knowing that I am with you always and in all ways.

The mind balks at this idea and may say something like; “How do I utilize this ‘gift’ of awareness, I’m in pain dammit…  what are you talking about?”.  So, awareness, as awesome as it is, doesn’t seem to do much good on its own, but it is absolutely required.

That leads us to the second part:  Pause.  Stop whatever activity, speech, and thoughts you are having.  I’m not talking ten seconds; I’m talking about sitting quietly, connecting with your breath (or anything else you have no control over or didn’t create) until you become still… calm.  Once we become still, it brings us into the present moment.

Only when we are present can we begin a conversation with that part of ourselves that is awareness.  By clearly identifying our concerns, we can Ask our question, only in relation to what, if any, our next step might be.

Sitting in the stillness, not thinking, we will Receive an answer, an insight, a thought, idea, or something.  It’s important to remember that what we receive, in all probability, will not make sense to our mind because…  it didn’t come from our mind.

The last part of the process is to Trust, what you receive, (if it’s not injurious to anyone) by taking action on it.  Will you make mistakes?  Absolutely, but by repetition, a living relationship with the truth in you is being built.

These principles applied, in that order, are what begin the process of living from a new starting point.  We begin to rely on who we really are instead of who we think we should be.  They work each and every time in that order form.  Why?  We’ve been living at the effect things have on us and we have to stop, and  be(at)cause, not effect:

…  there’s nothing to Trust if we don’t receive anything new… we can’t Receive anything new if we don’t ask… we won’t Ask if we don’t pause and let go of everything we “think” we know… we won’t Pause unless we have the awareness we need to… and we don’t become Aware unless we’re in some form of pain.

No belief is necessary, just a willingness to try the process.  The more passion, we apply to living these principles the more who we really are is revealed and a brand new world opens up to us, each and every day!
