Recreation (take five)

Here’s what five minutes of meditation brought me this morning.

My thought life is unmanageable.  There is no way I can be satisfied by what my mind comes up with by itself.  What does that mean?  It means I am more than my mind.  Who I am is a three-part being, soul, mind, and body.  Because I never developed my soul, I try to figure out my life with my mind alone… bypass my soul…  and take action with my body.  I’m constantly chasing my tail.  I have to let go of my thoughts and allow who(?) I am, to be there.  The spiritual man.

Nothing I know from the neck up will save me.  What am I being saved from?  My mis-taken beliefs of who, “I think”, I am!

I get quiet…  use my words… to ask that presence… that is who… I am… to stop my thoughts… move into my heart…  feel that presence beating my heart…  breathing my breath.  When I feel that presence…  I am open to receive…   ideas…  flowing from my source… which inspires (inwardly spirits) my mind…  to create that which I am here to create.  My mind… is myend… of the one mind (of God).  When I pause…  and re-member who, I am…  creation expresses itself through me…  to create…  in harmony with other myends…  the world…  as creation intends it to be.

Now that I am in my heart…  inspirit-a-tion is flowing in…  as…  and through me.  I can take action…  using my body and mind, in the physical world…  to put these words on paper… to re-mind you…  to re-member…  who you are.  However, I’m still new at this.  I have an undisciplined mind… it runs on its own… most of the time… I disconnect from inspiration… the source of my creation… all day long…  and try to live on myend power alone.  When that happens…  I experience pain… discomfort… negativity… I have temporarily forgotten who I am.  I need you…whoever you are…  to re-mind me… of who… I am.  We are not a-lone, we are all-one!  We need… each… other.   Let’s co-operate and re-create together…  the world…  as it was always intended to be.

Join us for a little recreation… as we utilize percussion instruments in a drum circle setting to re-cognize, how to get, and stay, connected… both  individually… and collectively… to the one whole…

Send your email address to paul@possidude.com to get on our mailing list.  We’ll let you know where, in the southern California area, you can “get yourself connected”.

Till then just… take five……

Re-a-son

How does our brain work?  According to an expert, and from her experience of a stoke (see video:  brain scientist insight ), our left brain processes, files, figures things out, sorts, and organizes all the information we accumulate in our life.  Our right brain is what accepts everything as it is.  All of it.  In all its splendor.  One giant cosmic whole.  A swirling mass of energy and light moving in perfect harmony.  We need both to live in the physical world.  You might look at the brain in this way; the right brain is all the information there is, and the left brain makes it useful.  We reason things out with the left brain based on the information we have, to create our lives and the things we do… the human part.  The right brain sees everything in its fullness, complete in its relation to everything else as part of the whole… the being part.

In order to experience the being part we must have the human part.  The being part inspires the human part with ideas, insights, of who we really are.  Then the human part organizes the data and brings the idea into manifestation.  When the being part is dominant, we are in la la land, peace and love and all that.  When we are in the human part, it’s all about evidence, hard facts, what we call reality.  We call right brain thinking, dreaming, and left brain thinking, reasoning.  What we are aiming for is balance.  The question is “how do we do that?”.

Why not try re-zoning instead of reason-ing.  Re-zoning some space in our left brain.  Spend some time quieting down, meditating, connecting to nature, listening to the silence. These things allow space in the left brain to receive inspiration, ideas, and concepts, from our right brain.  The things that are not part of our experience.  They have yet to be created.  The regular practice of things like this will begin to re-zone the way we think.  All great teachers throughout the ages have taught this.  Now science is saying the same thing.

All this presented me with another interesting idea.  I was writing the word reason out and it came out re-a-son.  Re means to do again…  a means singular… and son is an offspring of two things coming together.  So a singular idea might come from, all that is, in the right brain, enters into the left brain that processes that idea, which then creates a son, the offspring of the right and left brain coming together to create something man-I-festered in the physical world.  Which would make all of us, individual vehicles for the manifestation of God, all that is, expressing through us, and as us.  Or not….  you decide.    (oh, and feel free to comment on the post)

The “Fund-a-Mental Ideas of God (part 2)

The perfect idea (God)…  expressing itself through me (man)…  is the I am(i) presence…  that is my be-ing (festering)…  made flesh.  When I take action, I re-present that perfect idea of God and re-create that idea new in each moment.  God (being those ideas that express through me), empowers me to express myself in however I choose.  Only when I fail to recognize the source of all ideas do I shut of the flow of inspiration that continuously offers itself as me and create a false self based on selfish and self  centered thoughts about the way “I think” it should be.  I still have the ability to create in the image and likeness of my creator, to man-i-fest what I want, but without a re-membering of who I am in my fullness, no peace will be found, just an insatiable desire for more.

God is perfection, nothing needs to be accomplished, it already is, it just needs to be re-cognized by each individual piece of its creation, which then re-presents the peace that passeth all understanding.  As God so revealed to Neale Walsh: to re-member is to become a member once again of the body of God.

Just Give Up! (and begin again, new)

Aren’t you tired of working so hard…  trying to do better… trying to change… trying to get ahead… ahead of what?  Who?  Where are you going?  Do you think you’ll be happy when and if you get there?  It’s exhausting, isn’t it?  Is life supposed to be this hard?   Why don’t you just give up?

I know, that’s absurd, we can’t just give up…  can we?  But what if the problem is…   we just started from the wrong place?  What if…   why it isn’t working is because we started out wrong?  If that’s the case…   no matter what we do we can’t win, can we?  There’s no peace to be found, anywhere.  It’s a hard pill to swallow, I know, but think about it for a second…   if your thinking is off from the get go…  any ‘idea’ you come up with will be off too.  It’s no wondering the systems we’ve created, political, healthcare, penal, you name it, don’t work.  We started out wrong.  Any attempt to repair a system that doesn’t start from truth will fail.  So why don’t we just give up and start over?  Of course the mind will balk at such a proposal.  Our ‘thinking’ will dismiss this whole concept as ridiculous.  (if you continue reading this, consider yourself fortunate…  most won’t…  the authority of self doesn’t like to be questioned)

We’re raised to believe, you never, give up!  It’s our culture, if we give up we lose, we’re told.  Apparently at times, that seems true.  Here’s the question:  Is there a higher reality than apparent reality?  Is there a higher truth than what is apparent to us?  Our minds tell us no…   if I can’t see it, it’s not true.  But, aren’t we more than our minds?  Maybe it’s time we questioned that authority?

What if…   everything we will ever need we already have?  Is that possible?  Don’t think!  Just consider… is it possible that maybe we don’t know something, right from the outset, and if we knew that something consciously, everything would change?  Consider what that might mean in terms of the way we look at our life.  If you had access…  within yourself…  to answers, to any question you could possibly ask, related to your experience of life…  there would be no cause for worry, fear, anxiety, anger, jealousy, or greed…  no need to condemn or defend.

You do have that access, we all do, it is our birthright.  There are many methods available to help us live that experience.  Some involve many years of study just to make a beginning.   I’d like to offer a very simple one here, but don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself, see if it isn’t true in your experience.

Because we tried to build our life having the feeling that something was missing and we didn’t know what it was, and no one told us about it…  at least not in a form we could use.  Our foundation was insecure and that’s how we grew…  insecure.  (something’s missing and we just need a little more)

We can learn, however, to take it A.P.A.R.T. so it can come together.  I didn’t say make it happen, I said it can come together.  It can and will do it on its own.  All true paths are about removing the blocks we have created to the awareness of the presence of who we really are.

The first part in this process is:   Awareness, that something is missing.  The main indicator of awareness is pain, sometimes pleasure but primarily pain.  We don’t like a situation, person, or thing that is being presented to us… this can take unlimited forms.

Awareness does not come from the mind, it comes from something else.  That something goes by many names, the watcher, the witness, or higher self.  We all experience awareness, we just don’t often recognize it as a gift, and we fail to utilize it, so we become unconscious of it.  It’s still there we just aren’t conscious of it.  (It may be the death of a loved one… or you can’t pay the rent… it could be anything that produces the pain.)  The pain re-presents an opportunity to re-member once again, who and what, we really are.  The pay-in is the still small voice with-in, saying…   I am all of this event but this event is not all I am.  Behold, that is, just be…  feel what you need to feel…  let it go…  don’t freak out…  you’ll get through this even though you don’t think so…  and hold onto the knowing that I am with you always and in all ways.

The mind balks at this idea and may say something like; “How do I utilize this ‘gift’ of awareness, I’m in pain dammit…  what are you talking about?”.  So, awareness, as awesome as it is, doesn’t seem to do much good on its own, but it is absolutely required.

That leads us to the second part:  Pause.  Stop whatever activity, speech, and thoughts you are having.  I’m not talking ten seconds; I’m talking about sitting quietly, connecting with your breath (or anything else you have no control over or didn’t create) until you become still… calm.  Once we become still, it brings us into the present moment.

Only when we are present can we begin a conversation with that part of ourselves that is awareness.  By clearly identifying our concerns, we can Ask our question, only in relation to what, if any, our next step might be.

Sitting in the stillness, not thinking, we will Receive an answer, an insight, a thought, idea, or something.  It’s important to remember that what we receive, in all probability, will not make sense to our mind because…  it didn’t come from our mind.

The last part of the process is to Trust, what you receive, (if it’s not injurious to anyone) by taking action on it.  Will you make mistakes?  Absolutely, but by repetition, a living relationship with the truth in you is being built.

These principles applied, in that order, are what begin the process of living from a new starting point.  We begin to rely on who we really are instead of who we think we should be.  They work each and every time in that order form.  Why?  We’ve been living at the effect things have on us and we have to stop, and  be(at)cause, not effect:

…  there’s nothing to Trust if we don’t receive anything new… we can’t Receive anything new if we don’t ask… we won’t Ask if we don’t pause and let go of everything we “think” we know… we won’t Pause unless we have the awareness we need to… and we don’t become Aware unless we’re in some form of pain.

No belief is necessary, just a willingness to try the process.  The more passion, we apply to living these principles the more who we really are is revealed and a brand new world opens up to us, each and every day!

Contamination – Hazardous Thinking

I took a HazMat training course for a company I once worked for.  One of the things I remembered is the statement that;  “dilution is not an acceptable form of disposal”.  The premise being that contamination still exists, although only in a minuscule amount and it has the potential to grow and multiply rapidly.  Without treatment the hazard is still there.

I’ve heard it said that if you keep pouring clean water in a container of dirty water, eventually it will become clear and clean.  However, according to science, it’s still contaminated.  Another way to put it is “if you start out from contamination and don’t treat it properly, it still exists, even though you might not be able to see it”.  Having a choice, it’s a no brain er to drink from a pure source rather than one that’s contaminated.

What we’re really talking about here is the principle of contamination.  Once something has become contaminated it needs to be treated or it can’t be used without further contamination.

What about our minds?  Haven’t we contaminated our minds with some of the thoughts we have?  We have so many mistaken ideas and wrong beliefs in our mind.  Is it any wonder the world is in the shape it’s in?  So what do we do… we try to have good thoughts…  we pour good thoughts into our mind… positive thoughts…  our thinking becomes clearer…   we feel better…  things seem to be clearing up…  but… according to the rule of dilution, our minds are still contaminated. Often it only takes one bad event…  one wrong thought…  and we start that troubled thinking again.  The virus, bacteria, or contaminates grows.  It multiplies rapidly until we’re back to toxic contamination, and negative thinking again.  So, you ask, how can we treat this mind to get rid of the contamination?  The answer is we can’t.

We have to start with a new container, an open mind.  A mind not occupied by our thoughts.  The good news is; there is, within each of us, a clear stream or pool of uncontaminated consciousness that we can go to for clean, clear inspiration.  It can’t be contaminated by the world; it is the essence of all that we are.  All that’s required is a letting go of the contaminated container, a simple request, and an openness to receive what comes.  A new container (like when you partition off a section of your hard drive because your computer has become corrupted) filled from a pure source and a living from that new container.  The corrupt container is still there, you just no longer use it.  We have a tendency to go back to the contaminated container because it’s so familiar to us.  It’s all we’ve ever known.  We can tell however, when we use the wrong container…   it just doesn’t feel right.  Every time that happens…  I mean every time….. just stop…. become quiet and ask.  That’s all it takes……

As we build an awareness that we’re using the wrong container we become more willing to surrender the corrupt thinking and begin again, new, from purity.  It has been described as being born again…  the living waters…  the water of life… Zen mind…  Christ consciousness…  and countless other names.  It is the surrender of the contaminated, corrupt, world view and the recognition of, and surrender to, the pure, divine consciousness that has always been there underneath our corrupt thinking.

Taking it A.P.A.R.T. so it can come together is a method that, when applied, treats contamination of thoughts.  Awareness of mistaken thin king; Pause and become still; Ask for peace, inspiration; Receive something (the most commonly used name for God); Trust, take action on what you received.

Thank you for taking time to read this.  Your soul knows the truth!  Go with the soul.

We Are Love

I’ve heard it said that if we could actually be touched by God we wouldn’t be able to handle it.  It would overwhelm our physical body and blow out our senses.  Too much love to handle?  Could there be such a thing?  It’s hard to conceive of that much love.  Perhaps that’s what happens to us when we suddenly, and often for no apparent reason, have an emotional recognition of beauty or love and we’re touched by the spirit or God within.  It overwhelms us.  We jump into our heads to try to figure out what happened and we dismiss it as a ‘miracle’.

Our heads tell us we are separate from that love and so, unworthy of it.  We won’t consider the possibility that, that love,  is who we really are.  We believe our minds when they present us with all the seeming evidence as to why we aren’t love.  We cannot grasp that love goes way beyond the capacity of the mind to understand it, and so we live in an imagined reality.  We actually choose to go into the darkness of something that isn’t true rather than accept the truth, we are love.  Our choice doesn’t change the truth however; it does block our awareness of it.

Let me share an experience I had recently:  I was struggling with some financial matters, taxes, the AC went out in my car, a traffic fine, an unstable income, etc.  I intellectually know that I’m connected to my creator and can’t possibly lose that connection because it is who I am but the seeming evidence of a lack of money was all I could see.  In fact that was what my mind was obsessing about.  However it didn’t stop there.  Once I went into the darkness of what my mind was telling me, it got worse.  My mind literally attacked me with the ‘evidence’ of, not only was I broke, I was a failure, everybody knew it and it was just a matter of time before I’m homeless.  (In the absence of truth, the illusion seems real)

It shook me.  I’d been there before many times and knew it wasn’t true but still I doubted the truth of who I am.  I got up the next morning and wanted to act out in a way that I knew wouldn’t help.  Instead, I began a conversation with my higher Self.  I asked the question “What is the real problem here?”   I picked up a pen and paper and what came to me was:

“The only problem I ever have is… I miss my Self”.

My higher Self is the piece (peace) of God in me.  When I walk into the darkness of my mind’s illusions, I forget who I am and … I miss my Self.  I am literally “beside my Self” and I think I’m someone I’m not.

The sudden recognition of the truth, that I am love, flooded over me, washing away all my illusions as I wept in joy (enjoy) … it was so powerful…    my mind told me it was too much… I just laughed… it just kept coming… and I let it… laughing and crying as I walked down the road.

Nothing in my outer world changed, yet my entire being changed.  The grace of God is not outside of me and when I let go, I experience it as my life.

It was then that the words from the method I practice came to mind:

out of every season of grief or suffering, when the hand of God seemed heavy or even unjust, new lessons for living were learned, new resources of courage were uncovered, and that finally, inescapably, the conviction came that God does “move in a mysterious way His wonders to perform”.

Occupy Our Souls

We have so developed our minds and technology; we just can’t wait for the next generation to come out. it’s always, more, more, more… G3, G4, more apps, faster, faster, faster, that’s the answer.   All promising to make our lives simpler, easier, but… is that your experience?  Or is just more complex, faster, busier, all-consuming?  We believe we are getting a lot more done and faster, but at what cost?  I’m not trying to minimize technology, we have come a long way, but have we really solved any of humanity’s urgent questions, using the mind alone?  Billions spent on education and technology and still people live in poverty.

How about our bodies… extreme sports, super bowls, super cross, ultimate fighting championships… all dedicated to pushing the body to its limits, how strong, how fast, how precise can the body get?  Multi-million dollar contracts, thousand dollar tickets to watch individuals dedicated to developing their bodies to extreme levels, but at what cost?  It’s awesome to watch these dedicated athletes perform, or to challenge yourself to be the best you can be physically. But, again, have we really solved any of humanity’s urgent questions, using the body alone?  Billions spent on sports, developing our bodies, and still our homeless level keeps growing.

We all know we’re out of balance!  Something isn’t right!  The 99% say the 1% are the problem, and of course they are, but we are all the problem!  We have been living from the mind/body perspective and it can only get us so far.  We have forgotten who and what we really are.  We are spiritual beings having a physical/human experience.  We have become so con-fused with religion over the centuries that to even talk about spirituality, brings us generations of resistance and frustration.  Yet, even with all our vast knowledge and abilities, none of us really knows how our hearts beat or what it is that breathes our breath.

It’s time to Occupy Our Souls, individually and collectively!  When we put our attention and energy on our connection to our soul…  by simply and consistently quieting the mind and body… we become peaceful.  We start to become aware of the piece (I’m going to say the Word now, don’t let it scare you), of God we are.  The piece of God we each are.

The definition of a group is “many components that make up a whole”.  Each of us is a Soul, many Souls gathered together to make up a whole… Sole… One.  We are all equal parts of the whole or Sole.  In our re-cognition of that truth is our freedom, the freedom to re-member who we are, and live from that truthIt’s unfigureoutable from the mind or body…  but it can be known from the soul!

We don’t need anyone to tell us that no one should go hungry…  be without a home…  go without healthcare…  or be respected and loved.  Not with all our resources!  It shouldn’t be the way it is.  We all know this, so what happened…

We receive, individually, an in-spire-ation in our soul, from the One, God… the mind then takes the inspiration and says “that’s a great idea, I got it”.  The mind interprets what the soul says…  goes off with its very limited perspective…  and blows the idea way out of proportion because we lose our connection to the source.  The ego, the mind’s perception of itself, becomes the driving force for our life, and we quite literally, forget who and what we really are!

The solution;  build the relationship with our souls, individually and collectively.  Collectively, by talking with each other about it (the relationship) and how you do it, what works for you.  Individually there are many, many, methods, or paths.

Here is one way I have found, that works.  You don’t have to believe anything to try it and have your own experience.  I call it, “taking it A.P.A.R.T. so it can come together”.

Become Aware when you are upset, disturbed, angry or just don’t feel good.

Pause, just stop, let go of all your thoughts just for one minute, breathe slowly, watch your breath, just for a minute, it will bring you into the present.

When you feel peaceful, Ask your soul, what’s the best perception to have in this situation, what’s the best action I can take, how can I be truly helpful?

If you’ve gotten quiet and stopped your thoughts you will Receive an answer because you asked.  Don’t question what you receive.

Take action on it, try it out, make the phone call, read the book, write down your thoughts, but take action on the inspiration, sometimes that action is just letting go and not taking action.  Sure, you’ll make mistakes, but eventually you will find that accessing your soul and making the connection is the answer you’ve always been looking for.

Go with the Soul!  We really are One.

When each of us is connected individually to our source we can re-cognize our Oneness and co-operate with each other to re-create the world the way we all know it is intended to be!
