Asking: The Third Requirement (principle)

Once we’ve recognized that we don’t know (first requirement)…  paused and stopped thinking (second requirement)… we can lay out our concerns and ask something… other than our minds, a question.  We live in a world of seeming duality, right/wrong, up/down, left/right.  But we are three-part beings body, mind and soul.  We have within us our connection to our source, our soul.  Our source always was, always will be, and is present with us right now. When we ask our source (which contains all information that ever was or will be)… we open our minds to receive inspiration.  This is not thinking.  This is allowing what is there already to present itself so we can re-cognize, and express it.  Our problem comes from our thinking that we know what that should look like.  However, what we receive rarely looks like we think it should… because it didn’t come from our mind.  It is only when we bring our body and mind into alignment with our soul that we function as we were intended by our creator.

Something to remember:  the ego thinks it’s who we are and it’s fighting for its life.  It is only a fictitious character that we have come to believe in.  It uses our mind to convince us of its seeming reality, and it is flawless in its logic.  The ego is the “thin–king” we created.  It only knows the past.  The data of our life experience thus far.  It has conned us into thinking it’s who we are, and it doesn’t want to acknowledge any other authority.  This is why the second requirement, pausing, seems so difficult.  If we ask, without pausing and letting go of all thought, the ego answers, as it always does and logically re-creates the past.  That is why the order form of these principles is crucial.

Asking, once we’re still, allows us to recognize the truth that is there beneath our thoughts.  Principles never fail, we can only fail to apply them.

Pausing: The Second Requirement (principle)

I can touch a principle, say, gratitude, and focus on it without stopping.  I mean no quitting.  Find the things I’m grateful for, write a gratitude list, etc., just don’t stop till I am grateful.  I can do that anytime, anywhere, if I’m willing to put the effort in, and it works, every time.  Why, because it’s a truth whether I am of aware of it in any given moment or not doesn’t matter, I am grateful.  Gratitude is a principle.  We come that way from the creator.

So I can do that anytime with any truth love, beauty, any truth.  Why can’t I stay there?  What is it I need to do to stay in the moment and feel that way all the time?  Some say it’s not possible.  I have to ask, “Says who?”.  The authority of self, that’s who.  It’s the only authority I’ve ever known, it’s my mind, it tells me what’s what and I’ve become so dependent on it I forget there is a higher authority… within me… there is a higher truth.

In fact, we are all trained to figure it out ourselves from the day we are born.  I can’t remember anyone saying to me, “just be still, get quiet and ask in the stillness what you should do”.  What I got was, “Use your head, think, figure it out, you can do it.”  I missed the critical link.  I am more than a mind.  I have to include all of who I am, body, mind, and soul, or I am not being who I truly am.  A part of me is missing and I feel it, I don’t understand it, but I feel it.

When I put a pause… before thinking, it allows for something other than my mind to be there.  Call it what you want, spirit, inspiration, God, savior, or consciousness.  Whatever name you give to it, you can only know it by experience.  Pausing, stopping all action and thoughts, makes space for that experience.  It is only when we attempt to quiet the mind that we see how addicted to thinking we are.  Don’t let that stop you.  Here’s a suggestion from CwG that I have pasted on my computer:

Just close your eyes.  Breathe.  Stop whatever you’re doing for ten seconds and find the Silence.

Visit the Quiet.  Just for ten seconds.  Do it six times today.  That’s all it takes.

One minute, divided into six parts.  Go ahead.  Do it now.

I find it works every time I apply it.  Each experience I have applying it changes me… even though my mind can’t see it… and it will never agree.

Scales From My Eyes

Most of my life, I never question what my mind tells me.  I like this, I don’t like that, this person is okay and that one’s an asshole.  I never questioned the authority of self… the mind that tells me what’s what.  What I find is that when I do question “my truth” I open up to a much larger truth.

I use my eyesight to navigate in the world and my perception is always accurate, to me.  You might say it’s my ‘truth’.  But that doesn’t make it “the” truth, it’s just my truth based on my life experiences.  My perception of what “the” truth is, is often distorted by some of my experiences. We each have our own perceptions based on our experiences.  But, you have to admit, our perception is sometimes distorted.  Our distorted perception has put scales in front of our eyes.  So let’s call our perception the ‘distorted truth’.

Underneath the distorted truth is apparent truth?  Apparent truth is what is apparently so.  Let’s say it’s 80 degrees outside.  That may be hot for some, nice for others, comfortable, uncomfortable, whatever but the apparent truth, it’s 80 degrees.  My eyesight, my opinion, or my distorted truth, has no effect on apparent truth, it’s just what it is, 80 degrees.  When I let go of the consciousness of what my distorted truth is telling me, I rise to what is apparently true and, I come closer to “the” truth.

With Awareness …that there just might be something more than apparent truth …and the willingness to Pause …and let go of what seems apparent,  I can let go of my worldly perception… (more scales from my eyes)… and begin to look from a new perspective …insight …Inner sight!  Instead of use my eyes with all their scales, I can Ask for a new perception, a new vision of what the truth is.  And I shall Receive.

Why?  Because, deep down in every man, woman, and child is the fundamental idea of God… in the end, it is only there that it can be found.  When I ask that part of me for the new perception …what I then receive …doesn’t come from my mind …or the world’s view …it comes from the core of my being… God.  Creation itself.  And It’s always brand new… so it rarely seems like the right answer to me …because it didn’t come from my mind.

The question is not, will I receive.  The question is always, will I Trust enough to take action on what I receive, in spite of my eyesight and what seems apparent?

Do I ever misinterpret the messages I receive?  Absolutely, but this is a method I have found that really works!  Even when I make mistakes, it builds my relationship with my creator.  Not a theoretical or intellectual one …an actual living …day-to-day …personal relationship that grows stronger each day. And as the scales fall away, I begin to remember …who …I am.  And then I remember who you are …we are no longer separate or apart from …we are a part of the whole.  I find the word ‘holy’ a very interesting word.  My definition is:  The conscious recognition that we are equal parts of the one whole. We are One.

So anytime you don’t like how you’re feeling, try …  Taking it A.P.A.R.T.  … so it can come together!

Why do we think…

Why do we think we have to have all the answers in our little pea brains?  I got an email that suggested we look at life in terms of what we know about our universe, Just the stuff we think we know… like how long it has been around, about 14 billion years.  Then look at all that time as if it were just one year.  Man didn’t even show up until the last couple million… somewhere around Dec 15th… and right now is like 11:45pm on Dec 31st.  Kind of silly, with all the information that has taken place in all that time and we only have a few years here… that we would pretend to know anything at all… don’t you think?

But, as we say; ‘man is the highest form of life on the planet’!  How arrogant we all are…. you think it’s possible we missed something here?  Look at the job we’re doing as conservators, we still kill each other… heck we can’t even get along in our own families or with our own neighbors… yet we keep moving along… destroying the planet and all life on it… waiting for someday…

Yet, while we’re waiting, don’t you think we could have a little conversation about… say who we are, really?  Not what the books tell us… but what we already know inside,…if we but take the time… and dare to listen.  What if we just asked seven simple questions and we shared with our friends, family, or anyone really, the answers we got.  No fear… it’s just a conversation… maybe even at Starbucks… just once a week… heck you’re there anyway.  We know it’s not working the way we’re doing it, so why not re-thynk-it (think again a little differently).

I’d like to start one in the San Dimas / La Verne, Ca. area.  Anybody interested just reply to this post with best time and day that works for you. Remember, we’re not trying to do anything, we are just talking about being who we are.

Why don’t you start your own conversation, where you live?   All the info you need is at:  www.theglobalconversation.com

You Can’t Help It

I was talking with a friend today about walking in the real world, not the world as we see it with our physical eyes, but in the world as our creator sees it.  We had a conversation around asking for the right perception as we go through today’s day.  We both committed to ask for the presence that is who ‘I am’, our soul, our spirit, our savior, or just plain something (#1 name for God) to guide us and show us how to walk in this day… each step.

Now I know I won’t be able to do that perfectly, probably, if I’m  lucky (Gods nickname), I’ll remember to ask for that presence a few times today.  But, if I don’t quit, I can’t fail.  If I do it today as often as I can and I do it one day at a time, I’ll build an awareness of what it feels like.  As we walked together in this conversation, my friend said to me “I feel like I’m walking in the Garden of Eden”.  And we were, because when I let go of the “things” of the world (all my thoughts), the truth underlying them presents itself in its fullness and the world, as it was intended by its creator is revealed.

As we were saying our goodbyes, my friend was thanking me and I was thanking him and he was saying how grateful he was for our little talk.  I shouted out to him “you can’t help it”.  And you can’t help it.  The truth does not need my help.  I need to align myself with it.  When I do, I can see the world new in each moment, when I don’t and I try to help it along, I get caught in the mire and lose my awareness of love’s presence.  That’s okay, I’m going to do that, but as often as I can, I can let go and ask for that presence to be there and it will because the truth is always true, everywhere, and in all ways.  Thank you very much!

Common Sense

Why do we call it common sense anyway… it doesn’t seem to be so common?  It’s just doing the right thing.  I know I have common sense… but I’ve been in survival mode for so long… I mix up  my instincts with what, I sense, is right.  At first I couldn’t see how that happened.  But, once I became willing to seriously look at it, it wasn’t so hard to understand.  But I have to tell you… my instincts sure don’t want to look at it.

I started with some basics, things I just know.  I know no one should go hungry… be homeless… or go without medical care… nobody had to tell me that.  But “what can one person do?” my mind reasoned.  It’s so overwhelming… just asking the question feels so… hopeless.  My instincts pop up and justify my not even looking at the question…  and so, I feel bad for “those people” who are struggling… if I have extra (a very relative term), I’m willing to help out… so long as I don’t have to give up my stuff… or any of “my” time.  Such is the way I fall into “us vs. them” mentality.  Now I ask you, ‘where’s the “common” in that?’.

That’s what instinctual living does.  I use my reasoning mind to try to make sense out of my behavior… but my ‘common sense’ knows better.  Why?  Because common sense doesn’t belong to me… it’s what’s common in all of us…  it’s what makes us human beingsnot just human doings.  It’s the sense of unity that we all have… whether we like it or not.

Growing up, I was taught to… rise above the crowd… get to the top… distinguish myself… be a winner… get ahead… and basically, be anything but… ‘common’.  Without common sense as my guide I tried to live by my instincts… and the instincts drove me further away from my commonality with my fellow-man.  The further I separated myself from my fellows… the less my life made sense.  Coming to ‘my senses’ means remembering what is common to all of humanity, and living from that place.  It requires no thought!

“So what is this thing called humanity anyway?”, I asked myself.  A group of people.  And I began to look at the “group” instead of my individual life.  Then I looked up the word group and found a couple of definitions:

  1. many components gathered together for a purpose
  2. many parts that make up a whole.

From this new perspective, we’re all just “a” part of the human group.  We are… many components gathered together for a purpose… that make up the whole… humanity.  It doesn’t require agreement… it only requires co-operation.  It simple, is.  We can choose not to cooperate with it… just like we can choose not to cooperate with gravity… but, eventually  it gets very painful…

So how do we begin to live using our common sense?

“taking it A.P.A.R.T. … so it can come together” is a method that can be used by anyone to learn to reconnect with what’s been missing in our lives, what we have in common.  Knowing about common sense is one thing, living by it requires tools, because we’ve built our character instinctively, not intuitively.  There are many methods that offer these ‘tools’.  Here is a simple one that really works:

A.wareness that something isn’t right.  P.ause and let go of everything I think I know, become still.  A.sk that part of me that is common to all the other parts.  R.eceive via inspiration, what is there already.  T.rust and take action on that inspiration.

Give it a try… try it a few times… try it when it hurts… slow it down… it works every time… the only time it doesn’t work is when I don’t apply it!

If you’d like more information on how to apply this method in your life, or to schedule a workshop, email us at:  rethynkit@gmail.com

Common sense is what makes us sane.  Living by anything else is just plain insanity.

Recreation (take five)

Here’s what five minutes of meditation brought me this morning.

My thought life is unmanageable.  There is no way I can be satisfied by what my mind comes up with by itself.  What does that mean?  It means I am more than my mind.  Who I am is a three-part being, soul, mind, and body.  Because I never developed my soul, I try to figure out my life with my mind alone… bypass my soul…  and take action with my body.  I’m constantly chasing my tail.  I have to let go of my thoughts and allow who(?) I am, to be there.  The spiritual man.

Nothing I know from the neck up will save me.  What am I being saved from?  My mis-taken beliefs of who, “I think”, I am!

I get quiet…  use my words… to ask that presence… that is who… I am… to stop my thoughts… move into my heart…  feel that presence beating my heart…  breathing my breath.  When I feel that presence…  I am open to receive…   ideas…  flowing from my source… which inspires (inwardly spirits) my mind…  to create that which I am here to create.  My mind… is myend… of the one mind (of God).  When I pause…  and re-member who, I am…  creation expresses itself through me…  to create…  in harmony with other myends…  the world…  as creation intends it to be.

Now that I am in my heart…  inspirit-a-tion is flowing in…  as…  and through me.  I can take action…  using my body and mind, in the physical world…  to put these words on paper… to re-mind you…  to re-member…  who you are.  However, I’m still new at this.  I have an undisciplined mind… it runs on its own… most of the time… I disconnect from inspiration… the source of my creation… all day long…  and try to live on myend power alone.  When that happens…  I experience pain… discomfort… negativity… I have temporarily forgotten who I am.  I need you…whoever you are…  to re-mind me… of who… I am.  We are not a-lone, we are all-one!  We need… each… other.   Let’s co-operate and re-create together…  the world…  as it was always intended to be.

Join us for a little recreation… as we utilize percussion instruments in a drum circle setting to re-cognize, how to get, and stay, connected… both  individually… and collectively… to the one whole…

Send your email address to paul@possidude.com to get on our mailing list.  We’ll let you know where, in the southern California area, you can “get yourself connected”.

Till then just… take five……

Money?

Money is the value we give things based on a world that believes it can own what it did not create.  It starts with the ego’s idea of separation, my house, my car, my job, my partner, etc.  The word “my” separates us.  We see ourselves as different and go about life identifying the differences and forget who we are, (equal parts of the whole).  Interesting that we use the word “money” to try and combine the separated self ‘my’ and the connected Self ‘one’ to create an illusionary value.  No matter how we try we cannot separate ourselves from who we are.  There is only One and that One simply is ….

we either have (my) or we are (one)

It’s time to re-member who we are…  re-mind each other…  and act accordingly!

Just Give Up! (and begin again, new)

Aren’t you tired of working so hard…  trying to do better… trying to change… trying to get ahead… ahead of what?  Who?  Where are you going?  Do you think you’ll be happy when and if you get there?  It’s exhausting, isn’t it?  Is life supposed to be this hard?   Why don’t you just give up?

I know, that’s absurd, we can’t just give up…  can we?  But what if the problem is…   we just started from the wrong place?  What if…   why it isn’t working is because we started out wrong?  If that’s the case…   no matter what we do we can’t win, can we?  There’s no peace to be found, anywhere.  It’s a hard pill to swallow, I know, but think about it for a second…   if your thinking is off from the get go…  any ‘idea’ you come up with will be off too.  It’s no wondering the systems we’ve created, political, healthcare, penal, you name it, don’t work.  We started out wrong.  Any attempt to repair a system that doesn’t start from truth will fail.  So why don’t we just give up and start over?  Of course the mind will balk at such a proposal.  Our ‘thinking’ will dismiss this whole concept as ridiculous.  (if you continue reading this, consider yourself fortunate…  most won’t…  the authority of self doesn’t like to be questioned)

We’re raised to believe, you never, give up!  It’s our culture, if we give up we lose, we’re told.  Apparently at times, that seems true.  Here’s the question:  Is there a higher reality than apparent reality?  Is there a higher truth than what is apparent to us?  Our minds tell us no…   if I can’t see it, it’s not true.  But, aren’t we more than our minds?  Maybe it’s time we questioned that authority?

What if…   everything we will ever need we already have?  Is that possible?  Don’t think!  Just consider… is it possible that maybe we don’t know something, right from the outset, and if we knew that something consciously, everything would change?  Consider what that might mean in terms of the way we look at our life.  If you had access…  within yourself…  to answers, to any question you could possibly ask, related to your experience of life…  there would be no cause for worry, fear, anxiety, anger, jealousy, or greed…  no need to condemn or defend.

You do have that access, we all do, it is our birthright.  There are many methods available to help us live that experience.  Some involve many years of study just to make a beginning.   I’d like to offer a very simple one here, but don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself, see if it isn’t true in your experience.

Because we tried to build our life having the feeling that something was missing and we didn’t know what it was, and no one told us about it…  at least not in a form we could use.  Our foundation was insecure and that’s how we grew…  insecure.  (something’s missing and we just need a little more)

We can learn, however, to take it A.P.A.R.T. so it can come together.  I didn’t say make it happen, I said it can come together.  It can and will do it on its own.  All true paths are about removing the blocks we have created to the awareness of the presence of who we really are.

The first part in this process is:   Awareness, that something is missing.  The main indicator of awareness is pain, sometimes pleasure but primarily pain.  We don’t like a situation, person, or thing that is being presented to us… this can take unlimited forms.

Awareness does not come from the mind, it comes from something else.  That something goes by many names, the watcher, the witness, or higher self.  We all experience awareness, we just don’t often recognize it as a gift, and we fail to utilize it, so we become unconscious of it.  It’s still there we just aren’t conscious of it.  (It may be the death of a loved one… or you can’t pay the rent… it could be anything that produces the pain.)  The pain re-presents an opportunity to re-member once again, who and what, we really are.  The pay-in is the still small voice with-in, saying…   I am all of this event but this event is not all I am.  Behold, that is, just be…  feel what you need to feel…  let it go…  don’t freak out…  you’ll get through this even though you don’t think so…  and hold onto the knowing that I am with you always and in all ways.

The mind balks at this idea and may say something like; “How do I utilize this ‘gift’ of awareness, I’m in pain dammit…  what are you talking about?”.  So, awareness, as awesome as it is, doesn’t seem to do much good on its own, but it is absolutely required.

That leads us to the second part:  Pause.  Stop whatever activity, speech, and thoughts you are having.  I’m not talking ten seconds; I’m talking about sitting quietly, connecting with your breath (or anything else you have no control over or didn’t create) until you become still… calm.  Once we become still, it brings us into the present moment.

Only when we are present can we begin a conversation with that part of ourselves that is awareness.  By clearly identifying our concerns, we can Ask our question, only in relation to what, if any, our next step might be.

Sitting in the stillness, not thinking, we will Receive an answer, an insight, a thought, idea, or something.  It’s important to remember that what we receive, in all probability, will not make sense to our mind because…  it didn’t come from our mind.

The last part of the process is to Trust, what you receive, (if it’s not injurious to anyone) by taking action on it.  Will you make mistakes?  Absolutely, but by repetition, a living relationship with the truth in you is being built.

These principles applied, in that order, are what begin the process of living from a new starting point.  We begin to rely on who we really are instead of who we think we should be.  They work each and every time in that order form.  Why?  We’ve been living at the effect things have on us and we have to stop, and  be(at)cause, not effect:

…  there’s nothing to Trust if we don’t receive anything new… we can’t Receive anything new if we don’t ask… we won’t Ask if we don’t pause and let go of everything we “think” we know… we won’t Pause unless we have the awareness we need to… and we don’t become Aware unless we’re in some form of pain.

No belief is necessary, just a willingness to try the process.  The more passion, we apply to living these principles the more who we really are is revealed and a brand new world opens up to us, each and every day!

Ask and You Shall Receive

We need to be re-mind-ed because we appear to have forgotten who we are.  Everyone knows no one should be homeless… no one should go hungry… no one should hurt another, never mind kill.  Everyone knows no one should live in fear… everyone knows we need to help each other… that no one should go without healthcare.  No one needs to tell you these things, it doesn’t require a degree or any education at all…  we all know them…. Why… because we are all…. Each of us…. A part… not apart… or separate from… but an equal part… of the one whole called humanity.   We have given or very souls over to our Thin King…..  the very shallow, limited part of us we call our thinking.  Our thin-king is only one part of who we are… when we forget that, we get in trouble…  When we forget that… we can be tricked, manipulated, used and disposed off… in a New York minute.   Isn’t it time we woke up?   No matter how conned and fused we are, we always know what truth is.  The truth can’t be created or destroyed it simple is … and the truth will set you free.

If I know these truths like it says in our constitution.. we hold these truths to be self-evident… what part of us knows them… it surely isn’t our minds…. At least not the ones we’ve been living from… so there must be something else present in us that knows these truths.

Instead of asking our minds what we can do and coming up with that same old “nothing”…  why not ask the part that does know what to do, how we can change?   Ask and you shall receive, the man said.   Well ask!  Ask yourself…  but first ask the question, “Who are you?”.  Then be still and know I am God.  I am a live in you.  I am your very life expressing myself in as and through you.  I am with you always and in all ways.  I am the way, the truth, and the light.  Did you think I was kidding?

You have been listening to a storage device I gave you to function in the world called your mind.  Your mind is full of artificial intelligence but it is not who I am.  I am all you are but you are not all I am.  I have and will continue to offer you all I am.  When you co-operate with me, you feel Good, when you choose otherwise you don’t.  It is that simple!  You cannot change who I am but you can have a larger experience of it by co-operating with other expressions of who I am.

It’s not going to happen overnight.   You can’t just throw the whole world in reverse but you know you can’t believe the lies anymore… that there’s nothing you can do…  that’s just the way it is…  what can one person do… etc.

It all begins with a conversation I have with whoever’s listening when I’m by myself.  Can’t I just go into my heart of hearts and ask my creator…  what would you have me do?…  how do I be the person I came here to be?…  never mind all the stuff I think I know…  can I just start fresh today, this day?…  can you in-spire me with a brand new idea and give me the courage to share it with others?

Of course I can!  And you can too…   even if no one else does!  Change happens from the inside out!

Get Yourself Connected:  Connecting with who I am connects me:  … to my creator  … to others  … to the community  … to the world!
